Good morning, friends. As I write this on COVID-19 Pandemic Day of Isolation #67, we are in the Coffee Hours (waking until ~4 p.m.), though soon enough, we will be in the Cocktail Hours (~4/5 p.m. until bedtime). My children are shouting about the injustice du jour in the background as I type.
Ask yourself the question I am asking myself right now: are you ready for when the Cocktail Hours arrive?
I downsized the traditional rickey highball recipe for an old-fashioned size glass. This recipe contains about 2/3 the amount of a standard serving of alcohol.
Get creative with the recipe. No tart cherry juice in the house? Omit it entirely. Or use a flavored syrup or other juice. Remember to taste your concoction as you go to establish your preferred balance of flavors.
Tart Cherry Gin Rickey
- 1 glass 8-10 ounce size
- 3 Small ice cubes
- 30ml gin (or 1 ounce)
- 1/4 lime
- 2 teaspoons tart cherry juice
- club soda
- tart cherries (whole or muddled, as garnish)
|Put ice cubes in glass. Add gin. Squeeze lime into glass. Use lime rind to wet rim of glass, then discard. Add tart cherry juice or another variety of your choosing. Top off with club soda, to taste. Add cherries or other fruit, either muddled or whole as garnish.|
Dear reader, I’d love to know: What are you drinking?
