Greetings friends! You know how much I love to make jam, right? It makes a wonderful gift to give anytime of year. BONUS: I haven’t purchased jam/jelly/marmalade/etc. in years. Literally.
The good folks at the D.C. State Fair heard about my jamming skills and asked me to be a judge for this year’s fair. Good news: there’s still time to enter! DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 5. Use the last weekend before the fair to make a batch of jam.
The D.C. State Jam Contest will be held on September 12 at the Old City Farm and Guild! To find out more about this and other contests, visit https://dcstatefair.wordpress.

Need a little inspiration? Try this Strawberry and Meyer Lemon Marmalade. It doesn’t get much easier than this recipe when it comes to canning. No fresh strawberries? Defrost a 1-pound bag of frozen strawberries and cut them up. I added about half a teaspoon of vanilla bean paste after taking the marmalade off the heat to deepen the complexity of flavors.
Best of luck to all contestants, and we’ll see you at the Fair on September 12!
