Are You a Supertaster?
This is just another example of the amazing features of the human body. It’s fascinating to me that our taste preferences are as different as any other characteristic we possess. What’s even more interesting is the significance of this information, since the largest factor influencing food choices is taste. Concern for sodium intake is hot news these days, so what potential implications may stem from this research? How could this change food manufacturer decisions, and therefore consumer choices? I don’t have those answers, but I’m curious to find out how, if at all, this type of research may play a role.
The Next (Cool) Trend?
It’s hot and humid with daylight until 8 p.m., and I have a sweet tooth. The logical next step is a cold dessert. Who’s with me? While I prefer ice cream any day of the week, as a native Baltimorean I’m very familiar with the long lines at the local snowball stand. But taking the snowball to a new level hadn’t crossed my mind until I read this intriguing article. There’s really no surprise that some creative folks saw opportunity in such a simple and fun treat. Snowball, snow cone, whatever you like to call it, sounds perfect for a summer evening.
