Ah yes, such simple advice – increase your fruit and vegetable intake. Readers, here’s your challenge! I give Ms. Donaldson serious credit for jumping right in with her goal and I appreciate her sense of humor. I especially like her comment: “I find it a little comical that the best answers usually are the simplest, and we just do our best to make it more complicated.” Indeed.
Going Out to Eat This Holiday Weekend?
The gang at The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) never fail to impress with their investigations into what Americans love to eat. In case you were headed out to a restaurant this weekend, take a look at some of these shocking (well, not to some) numbers for dishes at several popular chains. Keep in mind however, that our philosophy is that every food fits, and that includes options when dining out. The choices highlighted in this article are quite extreme, but it’s only fair to mention that many restaurants – chain and otherwise – are making strides to improve their menu offerings. In most cases, there are menu choices that make far more sense than using up a day’s worth of calories for one entrée.
Tooting Our Own Horn
I love lists and rankings. It’s in my nature as a sequential thinker. I’ll read anything that includes a top 10 list or best of feature, so naturally The American College of Sports Medicine’s Fitness Index results was among my picks for this week. Folks in and around the D.C. area are likely not surprised by this news, particularly during this active spring season. While it’s exciting to be at the top, let’s also consider what efforts are in place elsewhere to promote healthy lifestyles regardless of location.
